Scenes from the recent exhibit, “Pera, from the hands of Akylas Millas” part of this year’s Athens City Festival. Melina Mercouri Cultural Center, Athens.

The exhibit features sketches and three-dimensional creations of the building and streets of Pera or Beyoğlu, where the writer, historian, and doctor Akylas Millas spent his formative years. He is able to recreate the façades of the buildings as they stood until the middle of the last century — including the wooden houses from the 19th century, neoclassical buildings such as the Sismanogleio, the Church of San Antonio di Padova, the Church of Aghia Triada and others.
